religion vs poetry/ karl vs carl

"Religion is such a poor substitute for poetry that only the lame, the halt and the blind should resort to it. I would suppose that there are more English poets who staggered backwards into religion than any other...

I am in favor of any religion that gets strong enough to become a threat to any other. I would like to see mosques and stupas rising all over the country and people throwing down prayer rugs at five o'clock on fifth avenue."

-Karl Shapiro

sidenote: I find a greater fondness for Karl's who are Karl's with a K, methinks
